OUR VALUES

We are by no means a perfect church and have not achieved all of the following completely, but we are working to be a church with these essential values.

  1. The one holy, righteous, mighty God, creator of the universe wants to have a personal relationship with mankind. He seeks to draw us to Him. We will seek Him with all of our hearts.
  2. The Bible is God’s Word so it is totally truthful and uniquely powerful. It is the perfect guide for living. We will attempt to live by its standards and proclaim it without apology.
  3. Fervent, faith-filled, persistent prayer is powerful and it changes things. We will pray without ceasing.
  4. God is worthy of our adoration. We will worship Him freely, passionately and boldly.
  5. The good news that God saves (the gospel) is power itself. It bears fruit and grows. It is the power to change our lives, our churches and the world. We will keep this message as the center of all we do.
  6. God’s mission is to save people for Himself through Jesus Christ. Missions is ordinary people, living ordinary lives together and seeing workplaces, homes and neighborhoods as the location of mission. We will share the good news of Jesus with boldness and live our lives with gospel intentionality.
  7. Jesus left His disciples on the planet to make disciples. It is the reason this church exists. We will always be involved in the process of passing Jesus Christ to another, who will then pass Him on to another.
  8. The local church is the primary instrument God has chosen to accomplish His kingdom mission. We will be committed to the church and the use of our gifts in order to transform lives within the church and without.
  9. All believers are gifted and called to ministry. We will work together as a team in a shared ministry to accomplish God’s work.
  10. As believers, we have been called to be salt and light. We will strive to make our towns, communities and neighborhoods a better place because we are here.
  11. Small groups are the greatest place for discipleship and life-change. We will shepherd and care for one another while living life together and serving Jesus and our community.
  12. Church planting is essential to the building of the kingdom of God. We will be committed to planting new churches in the local area and around the world.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2; 1 Corinthians 13:14

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates man from God.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from

God, by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; John 2:25; John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; 1 John 5:11-12; Matthew 25:31-46

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4; Romans 1:3, 4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13

Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works – only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.

John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under his control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16, 17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1

The Bible is God’s word to all men. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

The church is a group of believers brought together by the Spirit of God to carry out the Great Commandment by practicing the Great Commission and observing the two ordinances of the church – baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Each church is an autonomous body operating under the leadership of Christ as the Head of the Church.

Matthew 16:13-28, 28:18-20; Acts 2:41,47,16:1; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29; Ephesians 2:19-22, 4:11-13; Hebrews 10:23-25; 1 Peter 5:1-3

OUR HISTORY

Worden Baptist Church was formed by the people of the Worden community sometime in the 1890s. Through the years the church and its members have had a reputation for being faithful to God’s Word and having a great spirit of love and fellowship.   It has always been a place for regular, ordinary people to come and find refreshment and acceptance.

Today WBC stretches far beyond the Worden community. People from the neighboring towns of Bald Knob, Augusta, McCrory, Newport, Judsonia, Kensett and Searcy come to worship together. Recently small groups have been started in several of these communities. WBC also reaches beyond its own immediate area by being involved in several worldwide mission projects.
